You made the cookies for your kids, but now they’re sitting on the counter. Staring at you. But you’re determined that today you’re sticking to your healthy eating plan, and you will not touch them.
You walk past them on the way to put laundry in the dryer. You try not to look at them while you unload the dishwasher. And you act like peripheral vision isn’t a real thing as you bustle around trying to mind your own non-cookie business.
It’s just a plate of plain old chocolate chip cookies. You don’t want or need them, and you’re not even hungry.
Fifteen minutes later, as you’re finishing up your second cookie, you can’t help but wonder, “Why did I eat this cookie?”
This scenario happens to a lot of us. Making healthy decisions and losing weight is important, and you know the steps you know the steps you need to take. But when it comes time to actually do what you know you need to do, you just…don’t.
Apostle Paul puts it this way:
For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.
Romans 7:15 ESV
What makes you continually do the thing you don’t want to do, especially when it comes to food?
First, I want to assure you that you’re not broken. Losing weight and getting healthy do matter to you, but maybe not as much as you think.
Let’s dive in and figure out the three big reasons you might find yourself eating even when it goes against your goals. I’ll show you how you can change your goals to be things that really matter to you, so you can maintain healthy eating goals long term.
