How to Let Go of Body Image Shame and Guilt

You finally did it. You’ve worked hard on your health and well-being, and now you’re over the moon about the results and progress you’re seeing.

But as you start to feel better—and yes, even look better—you start to feel shame. Now that you’ve experienced the benefits that come from living a healthy lifestyle, you wonder, “Why didn’t I do this sooner?”

Body image shame is real, and it’s painful. It hurts to know that you could’ve made these changes months or years ago. And when you start to feel shame over how you look or choices you’ve made in the past, you assume that Jesus probably feels the same. Has He been sitting up there in heaven this whole time feeling ashamed of you? Is He as disappointed in you as you are in yourself?

Friend, let me assure you that shame isn’t from Jesus. He is not disappointed in you, His precious daughter.

Shame and guilt are tools of your enemy, meant to keep you from living up to your full potential for Christ.

But even when it seems like you have messed up or didn’t do what you should have, God still says this:

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Jeremiah 29:11

Jesus invites you to walk away from the past and He gives you a future filled with hope. Body image shame and condemnation for past mistakes aren’t part of His plan for you.

So let’s talk about embracing God’s peace and moving forward free of guilt and shame. He offers you an abundant life and freedom in Him if you’ll only reach out and take it!

In “How to Let Go of Body Image Shame and Guilt” we discuss:

  • Asking God for grace and mercy to cover your past mistakes.
  • How to stop operating from a place of guilt and shame.
  • Living and abundant life in Jesus.
