A Grace-Filled Approach to Breaking the “Monday” Cycle
We all know the feeling.
You slip up with food, feel frustrated, and instantly think, “It’s fine…I’ll start again Monday.”
Or maybe next month. Or on January 1st. Or whenever the stars align and life feels easier.
But why does tomorrow feel so much more doable than today?
In this episode of the Grace-Filled Food Freedom Podcast, we dig into the emotional and spiritual roots of the never-ending restart cycle—and more importantly, how God invites you into a gentler, more sustainable approach.
For so many women, the cycle begins with dieting. At first, you’re motivated and “perfect.” Then the rules become too hard, too unrealistic, too joyless. Overwhelm sets in…and you slip. You promise yourself a fresh start tomorrow, but each restart lasts a little less time than the last. Eventually you’re restarting every week, every day, sometimes every morning.
But here’s the truth:
You’re not failing.
The method is failing you.
When expectations are extreme or miserable, your brain resists. So delaying becomes a coping mechanism—your mind’s way of saying, “This is too much.”
God never asked you to punish yourself into health. He invites you into faithful, doable steps, not perfection.
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
— 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
Instead of starting over on Monday with a whole new food rulebook, this episode encourages you to find habits that feel appealing—habits you’re actually excited to do. Small changes add up, especially when done with consistency and grace.
Another reason the Monday cycle sticks around? Emotional eating. When food is functioning as comfort, reward, escape, or noise-cancelling headphones for your stress, the idea of changing feels impossible. The goal isn’t to control the food harder—it’s to understand the need underneath and let Jesus meet you there.
Once those deeper needs begin to be healed, your habits become easier. Even joyful. And Monday loses its power.
Change doesn’t begin on a calendar date.
It begins when you let God into the moment you’re in.
