Growing Lasting Change Through Small, Faithful Habits
It often starts the same way. You’re doing well. You’re making intentional choices. You feel like this time might be different. And then something small happens. One bite. One moment. One decision you didn’t plan for. Suddenly, it feels like everything is ruined.
For many women, that single moment triggers a familiar cycle—frustration, guilt, and the promise to “start over tomorrow.” But that cycle isn’t a lack of discipline. It’s the result of a mindset that keeps you stuck: all-or-nothing thinking.
But what if lasting change doesn’t come from starting over at all?
In this episode of the Grace Filled Food Freedom Podcast, Brandice continues walking through chapter two of her book Fully Nourished and unpacks why the diet mentality keeps so many women trapped in cycles of starting over. This mindset convinces us that if we can’t do everything perfectly, we’ve failed—and that belief pulls us further away from the consistency that actually creates change.
Many approaches to health and food focus on quick results. Thirty-day plans. Six-week transformations. Clear rules to follow. But real, lasting change doesn’t happen on a rushed timeline.
You cannot undo years of habits, thought patterns, and emotional connections to food in a matter of weeks. True transformation is layered. It happens slowly, intentionally, and over time. This is where small, faithful habits begin to change everything.
Instead of trying to overhaul your entire life, Brandice introduces the concept of “seed habits”—small, sustainable actions that are simple enough to repeat consistently. These habits may feel insignificant at first, but like a seed, they hold the potential for real growth when they are nurtured over time.
A habit isn’t defined by how perfectly you perform it. It’s defined by how consistently you return to it. That’s why small matters. When a habit is small enough, you can continue showing up—even on hard days. And as you practice that consistency, you begin to build something stronger than motivation: faithfulness.
This approach also changes how you respond to setbacks. Instead of letting one choice spiral into a full day of discouragement, you learn to pause and reset in the moment. You begin to recognize that one decision does not define your progress—and that continuing the spiral will not undo what has already happened.
You don’t need a new day to begin again. You can choose your next step right now. Over time, these small resets begin to interrupt the cycle. You catch yourself sooner. You move forward more quickly. And what once felt like constant starting over becomes steady progress.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
— 2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV)
This is the beauty of small, faithful habits. They remind us that change is not something we force on our own. It’s something we participate in with God. As we offer what we have—no matter how small—He grows it into something far greater. And when that growth happens through His strength, He receives the glory.
That is the heart of lasting change. It’s not built through perfection, pressure, or starting over again and again. It’s built through small, consistent steps taken in faith. And over time, those small steps grow into something lasting.
