Our modern society is full of thoughts and opinions about food, but this isn’t new. Food has been a topic of controversy since the beginning of time.
Do you know who else has a lot to say about food? God, through the Bible. In fact, we only get to Genesis 2:9 before God mentions food for the first time.
And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Genesis 2:9 (ESV)
Throughout history, God gave many commands to His people involving food. For example, in the book of Leviticus, He instructed them that some foods were safe to eat, while others He deemed as “unclean.”
Moving into the New Testament, many members of the early church had qualms about eating foods that were offered to idols. They felt these foods were offensive to and dishonored God.
While Jesus walked the earth, His disciples were criticized for picking and eating corn. He was rebuked by religious leaders for sitting down to eat with sinners.
With all this, it’s easy to see why, as Christians who desire to eat foods that honor God and our bodies, things can get confusing.
What should you eat? Are processed foods a no-no according to Scripture?
The great news is, God’s Word isn’t confusing! And His thoughts about foods aren’t a mystery. He wrote it all down for us in black and white.
So let’s dive into the Scriptures together and see what the Bible says about eating healthy. The answer might be something you’ve never heard before. But when you get it straight from the Bible, you can say goodbye to doubt.
