If you’ve struggled with weight for years or even decades and wonder if our Platinum program would work for you, let me introduce you to Erin. Erin struggled with overeating for over 35 years, with her weight fluctuating up and down time and time again. She felt stuck, frustrated, and embarrassed.
In 2017, Erin finally found her “success” when she joined a popular weight loss program. Over the course of four years, she hit her goal weight and even became a coach for the company. It felt like her struggles were finally coming to an end!
But then, her journey took an unexpected turn…
Facing Challenges
Not long after reaching her goal weight, Erin found a lump in her breast. Her worst nightmare came true when she found out it was cancer. Erin went through nine months of chemo, radiation, hair loss, and then a double mastectomy. It was an incredibly difficult season, but the Lord gave her strength and perseverance every step of the way.
Erin triumphed over cancer, but it left her with deep physical and emotional scars–She was now living in a different body with a new shape, devoid of energy, and with permanent tissue damage. As she adapted to her new reality, Erin’s doctor prescribed a hormone suppressant, which led to noticeable weight gain which left her feeling out of control.
She found herself struggling with overeating again…she told herself she deserved the food or feared it would be taken away. She struggled with guilt, shame, frustration, and embarrassment, thinking:
“Of all people, I should know how to control myself… But… I couldn’t… I wouldn’t… I didn’t… I was stuck and done doing this my way… how the experts told me to.”
A Turning Point
Erin’s journey to Platinum started with a Facebook ad and a freebie. Soon after discovering Grace Filled Plate, Erin joined our free Grace Filled Food Freedom Facebook Group and dove into the Chew the Word Studies.
She felt God stirring something inside her, drawing her closer to Him. Because, like many of us, she had unintentionally left God out of her food struggles and body image issues. This revelation breathed hope for transformation into Erin’s heart and mind.
She says, “I love how God uses the ordinary struggles of my life to draw me even closer to Him.”
Erin joined the June 2023 Platinum cohort at just the right time. She’d hit her limit, was beyond frustrated, and every part of her was reaching for something different! Praise the Lord, Platinum offered a unique approach, unlike anything Erin had experienced before.
Platinum wasn’t just another diet; it was a complete transformation of her relationship with food through her faith.
Erin’s Results in Platinum
Through Platinum, Erin learned how to get to the root of her food issues. She started to see herself in a new light—the way her Heavenly Father saw her. This shift in perspective led to some pretty significant breakthroughs in Erin’s life as she found…
- More peace with food: The sound of food calling out to her diminished as she learned to distinguish the voice of God. One of her favorite sayings is, “Food is great, but food is not first.”
- Finding balance in her eating: Erin learned that food isn’t good or bad—it’s just food. This set her free from many diet-induced and self-imposed food rules she had tried to follow for years. Now, Erin eats foods that nourish her body but still allows herself to enjoy her favorite foods.
- Attuned to hunger and fullness: Erin adopted habits like decreasing distractions and not looking at her phone or iPad while eating. She now serves herself less food or leaves a few bites on her plate. These small habits help her pay attention to her feelings of hunger and fullness instead of mindlessly eating while scrolling online.
- Embracing the power of grace: Erin learned that all-or-nothing thinking doesn’t work. Now, she extends grace and kindness to herself, letting go of negative self-talk and replacing it with gratitude and praise.
- Breaking free from the scale: Her worth is no longer contingent on what the scale says, and she has learned to use the scale as a tool instead of an evaluation of her as a person.
Finding Food Freedom
Through her Platinum journey, Erin is learning to set guidelines for herself. Sometimes she catches herself falling back into old diet patterns, but now she recognizes them for what they are—old ways she’s departed from. Instead of falling into the all-or-nothing cycle of binge eating and crash diets, she learns from her mistakes, lets them go, and moves on.
And the scale is trending downward. After feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns for so long, Erin is thrilled to see progress. She even had to dig through her closet to find a belt because her jeans kept falling down!
“I have been thoroughly impressed with and appreciate how thoughtfully and prayerfully Platinum has been developed,” Erin says. “It has been a life-altering experience for me–I am walking the path towards…food freedom, something I never would have thought possible.”
Despite the ups and downs, Erin’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of faith and grace. She continues to learn and grow, seeking God first in all things, including her relationship with food.
