How Important Is It to Eat When You’re Hungry?

“I’m hungry.”

Two little words that children learn to say very early in life. But as you get older, the lines between hungry and not hungry become blurred.

The feeling of fullness gets confused with being stuffed. Before you know it, you’ve eaten right past the point of satisfaction and ventured into overeating territory.

“Eat when you’re hungry, and stop when you’re full.” It’s one of the simplest tips for health and weight loss. But years of disordered eating and fad diets may have you in a struggle to understand your body’s signals. And now you’re in a bind, wondering: How do I know if I’m truly hungry? How do I know when I’m full? And how important is it to eat when I’m hungry?

If you’ve been trying to eat only when you’re hungry, you know the struggle.

You start to feel a little niggle of hunger, and you push it away. After waiting until you feel ravenous, you finally give in to the desire to eat.

That first bite is like heaven in your mouth, and you enjoy it…and the next, and the next, and the next, until you realize you’re no longer hungry. You’re now stuffed and feeling bloated, and you’re wondering what happened.

It’s enough to make a girl want to give up for good. But eating when you’re hungry is important. In fact, it’s one of the most important things you can do for your health.

You can heal your body, reset the signals, and learn how and when to eat.

God created your body to be amazing. With the right tools and the help of the Holy Spirit, you can learn to eat only when you’re hungry, and stop when you’re full.
