How Do I Stop From Overeating in the Heat of the Moment?

You’ve been “good” all day. You’ve stuck to your plan and you’re feeling pretty good about yourself. Even though you’re feeling a little hungry, you push that feeling to the side.

Now, all you need to do is say “no” to that late-night snack you’re always craving.

Suddenly, you find yourself opening and closing cabinets. Then you’re at the pantry, then the refrigerator, and you finally end up at the freezer.

One bite of ice cream becomes two, and two becomes the rest of the carton. Was it really a half-gallon?

Now you’re feeling stressed and more than a little defeated.

As you drop the empty carton into the trash, you can’t help but wonder, “How do I stop from overeating?”

Overeating in the heat of the moment is a major problem for a lot of the women I coach. As they walk the road to food freedom, they often realize that stress is the root cause of overeating.

You don’t realize it’s building up slowly throughout the day. What feels like a snap when you’re standing at the freezer is actually a lot of different emotions and stressors you’ve faced all day long.

Now, I know what you’re thinking.

“There’s no way to stop feeling stressed.”

It’s true—we’ll always have things in our lives that bring stress. But we also have the power of God in our corner to bring peace.

With a few tweaks to your mindset, you can create a toolkit to help you stop overeating in the heat of the moment.

You can learn how to stick to your plan every day (or most days!) by trusting God and taking it one step at a time.

I’ll show you how!

In “How Do I Stop From Overeating in the Heat of the Moment?” we discuss:

  • The cause and effect of your daily activities on your eating habits.
  • Taking your struggles with food to God in prayer.
  • Identifying patterns that lead to overeating.
