Grace Filled Food Freedom podcast why do I keep overeating when I'm in pain

Why Do I Keep Overeating When It’s Causing SO Much Pain?

Why, oh why, do we do things that are obviously going to hurt us?

Why on earth would we keep doing the very things that make us miserable?

Why do we keep overeating when it causes us so…much…pain?

If you’ve struggled with overeating, then you know exactly what I’m talking about.

You served yourself the portion you wanted and now you’re full. But then you take just one more serving because the food was just so good. And really, what difference will one little extra serving make?

So you eat more than your body needs, maybe to the point of actual physical discomfort. Certainly to the point of emotional pain. And—to your secret shame and embarrassment—you love it and hate it at the same time.

As you shift around to ease the physical and emotional discomfort, you vow to never overeat again. Starting tomorrow.

Except that tomorrow never comes. Because…well, you have a really, really good reason why tomorrow is always a day away.

Meanwhile, you overeat and feel like the biggest “failure” when it comes to food…again.

The thing is, you keep overeating for a really important reason that you’re missing.

But when you look at your overeating through the lens of grace, you’ll start seeing things differently.

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV

Then you’ll stop trying to fix the wrong problem and start getting to the root of the right one.

And that’s when you’ll be able to start plucking out those desires to overeat one at a time.
