Surrendering the Scale: Trusting God With Your Goal Weight
You didn’t plan for the number to matter this much.
At first, it was just a goal — something concrete to aim for. A number that once represented feeling confident, energized, or at home in your body. Maybe it’s the weight you were when you got married. Or when you were 18. Or during a season of life that felt simpler, happier, more secure.
So you step on the scale, heart quietly hoping it will affirm you.
And when it doesn’t?
The disappointment lands heavier than the number itself.
On the surface, a “goal weight” seems harmless — even motivating. But for many of us, that number carries far more meaning than we realize. It can quietly symbolize acceptance, worth, or the belief that once we get there, everything will finally feel okay.
In this episode of Grace Filled Plate, we slow down and ask a deeper question:
What are you really chasing when you chase a number?
Because bodies change. Seasons change. Life changes. And trying to force your body to return to a former version of yourself can pull you out of presence with the life God has placed in front of you today.
Instead of asking, “How do I get back there?”
What if we asked, “What do I actually want to feel?”
Confidence. Freedom. Strength. Peace.
The ability to get dressed without spiraling.
Energy to walk with your kids, serve your community, or say yes to the things God is calling you into.
Those desires are not sinful — but they may not be tied to a specific number the way we think.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”
— Philippians 4:6 (ESV)
This episode invites you to loosen your grip on the scale and begin paying attention to what truly reflects growth: sustainable habits, contentment, and a relationship with food that no longer dominates your mental space.
Progress doesn’t always look like less.
Sometimes it looks like peace.
And peace might be the most meaningful goal of all.
