A Christ-Centered Approach to Self-Love and Weight Loss

Are you fighting your body—or learning to live at peace with it? Sometimes it’s hard to love the bodies we’ve been given—especially when those bodies feel like they’re changing or failing us. Whether it’s perimenopause, a post-baby body, or just years of diet culture whispering that you’re “not enough,” it’s easy to feel like your body is the problem.

But what if we stopped fighting our bodies… and started seeing them as a vessel to serve God?

Here’s the thing: the world says “self-love” and makes it sound selfish. But Scripture says to love your neighbor as yourself. That means there has to be a well of compassion inside you to draw from. Loving your body doesn’t mean idolizing it—it means caring for it so you can live out your calling.

Where does the battle begin?

For some of us, the battle began long ago. Maybe someone said something to you when you were young.

Maybe you saw an image that made you feel “less than.” And without even realizing it, a seed was planted—a lie that your body isn’t good enough.

But friend, you were fearfully and wonderfully made. And when you start to untangle those lies and speak truth over yourself, healing begins.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. Psalm 139:14 (ESV)

Let’s not forget—there’s an enemy who wants to keep you stuck in this struggle. Because if you’re fixated on your body, you’re distracted from your mission. You weren’t made to sit on the sidelines. You were made to shine God’s light.

Let’s make a shift.

Instead of chasing a goal weight like it’s the promised land, let’s pursue health as a way to worship. Let’s invite God into our meals, our cravings, and our choices. Not to shrink ourselves—but to serve from a place of strength and joy.

You don’t have to choose between honoring your health and walking in freedom. You can do both, hand in hand with the Holy Spirit.

Because God isn’t too busy to care about what’s on your plate. He’s with you in the kitchen, in the cravings, in every small step toward food freedom.
