Food, Faith, and Freedom: Do Macros Fit In?

You’ve probably heard of it before.
The latest diet trend. The way to “finally get control” of your body.

It goes something like this: weigh, measure, and track every bite of food to make sure your protein, carbs, and fat hit just the right balance. In the fitness world, it’s called counting macros.

At first, it sounds freeing—you can fit in cookies or chicken as long as the numbers work out. For others, it feels exhausting, stressful, and maybe even obsessive.

So, should you count macros? Or is there another way?

The truth is, macros (like any tool) aren’t inherently good or bad. For some, they help quiet the constant chatter about food. For others, they add pressure and take up too much mental space.

But here’s the bigger question: does it line up with your values and your walk with Christ?

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
— Matthew 6:33 (ESV)

If counting macros helps you step away from food obsession and frees you up to live more fully in the fruits of the Spirit, then maybe it has a place in your life—at least for a season. But if it becomes another idol or takes food to the throne of your heart, it might not be the healthiest choice for you.

Remember: your worth isn’t found in a number, a scale, or a perfectly balanced plate. It’s found in Christ alone.

In “Food, Faith, and Freedom: Do Macros Fit In?” we discuss:

  • Why counting macros can feel freeing—or completely overwhelming
  • How to know if this practice aligns with your goals and values
  • A God-centered perspective on food habits and freedom
