Overeating to Avoid Food Waste? Break Free from the Clean Your Plate Club

After all, kids are notorious for wasting food–especially if that food is vegetables! Your mom meant well, and she wanted the best for you. Sometimes that meant eating all of your broccoli before you could have cake!

The Bible tells us that we are stewards of our possessions here on the earth. That includes learning not to waste anything, including food.

While learning to eat solid, well-balanced meals is important, it’s easy to take it to an extreme as an adult.

As you grow into adulthood, you’ve probably internalized these messages about not being wasteful, especially if you’re the one paying for groceries. It’s hard to see “good” food go into the trash!

It seems better to eat those last few bites than to scrape them off into the garbage. So, you eat it all, even if you’re not hungry. In the end, you’re left feeling overstuffed and miserable.

The clean-your-plate mindset is tricky, because we have been taught that waste is wrong. But choosing to clean your plate can lead to overeating to avoid food waste. And that puts you right back in an unhappy dieting cycle.

As a recovering member of the “clean plate club” I promise you, you can break out of this cycle! All you need is a new perspective on waste, and some simple habit changes to help you avoid those pesky leftovers.

I’ll break it down in this podcast episode, so you can stop overeating to avoid food waste. You can learn that it’s okay to stop eating when you’re full–even when there’s still some food left on your plate.

In “Overeating to Avoid Food Waste? Break Free from the Clean Your Plate Club” we discuss:

  • The incorrect (and unhelpful) labels we apply to ourselves
  • How to change your perspective on waste
  • What waste really is–and it’s probably not what you think
